The big news of day one broke just as the show officially opened at 7 AM. Selected as North American Car of the Year is the 2013 Cadillac ATS, while truck honors went to the redesigned 2013 Ram 1500 pickup. Some other announcements and reveals:

+   The restyled 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6, a refreshed SRT variant, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Patriot and Compass also receive a freshening up and a new six-speed automatic.

+   Volkswagen debuted a mid-sized, six-seater SUV, the Crossblue, with diesel-hybrid motivation.

+   Toyota’s Furia Concept officially wears a Corolla nameplate, signalling the company’s future intentions for its popular production sedan.

+   Chevrolet displayed an interesting array of vehicles not usually seen in the USA, including five production models manufactured in Brazil, China, and South Korea.

+   The Honda Urban SUV Concept, a dinky new crossover, shares its platform and Mexican assembly plant with the Honda Fit sedan. The production version will go on sale in the USA in late 2014.

+   The Lincoln MKC Concept crossover is loosely based on the Ford Escape but with 20-inch aluminum wheels, distinctive sheetmetal, and a luxurious interior.

You can find these vehicles and more interesting stuff in the slideshow gallery below.

  1. Love the Cadillac ATS and ELR. Both cars have that crisp, sharp Bill Mitchell look. When GM ruled the world!
