NAIAS: Day two wrap-up

Herewith, the MCG recap of day two at the 2013 North American International Auto Show.

Some of the big stories from the floor of Cobo Center in Detroit:

+   Ford’s share price edged up 2.2 percent on the New York Stock Exchange as the company unveiled its new Atlas truck concept. Ford sources indicate that key elements of the Atlas will appear in the next F-150 pickup in MY 2015.

+  The latest iteration of the NSX Concept was the star of the Acura stand at Cobo. The hybrid-AWD hyper-sports car is expected to become retail reality sometime around 2015.

+   The previously announced BMW M6 Gran Coupe (actually a close-coupled four-door) appeared in the flesh at NAIAS. It hits the showrooms this summer sporting a 660-horsepower 4.4-liter M twin-turbo V8.

+  The 2013 Nissan Resonance Concept hybrid is a preview of the next-gen Murano crossover that will be manufactured at Nissan’s North American truck plant.

+   Sporting traditional-ish styling and a 3.3L, direct-injection V6 with 293 hp, the 2014 Kia Cadenza was unveiled at Detroit in advance of its appearance in U.S. showrooms in the spring.

+   The nearly production-ready 2014 MDX in the Acura display was labeled as a prototype rather than a concept. Revisions to the popular crossover are incremental.

+  The second-gen Lexus IS Sedan appeared at Detroit. The BMW 3-series rival will go on sale this summer with available Lexus Hybrid Drive.

+   The Audi RS 7 Sportback gets the same 4.0-liter, 553 hp twin-turbo V8 as the RS 6 Avant, coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro AWD system. It goes on sale in the fall with a sticker edging toward six figures.

You’ll find all these models and other interesting vehicles from NAIAS 2013 in the slide show gallery below.
