Woodward Dream Cruise 2013

Cars, Cars, Cars. There were thousands of vehicles of every description on the street for the 2013 Dream Cruise.

Sunny skies, a gentle breeze, and temperatures in the 70s made this one of the more comfortable Dream Cruises in recent memory. Out on the boulevard on this pleasant day, we encountered a number of familiar Woodward cruisers, and many new ones as well:

+   A  black ’59 Chevy pickup from Ontario that successfully combined elements of old school custom and modern street machine. Nice.

+   A concours-worthy 1938 Chrysler Royal Touring Sedan owned by George Hoelaars of Royal Oak, Michigan. From the wreckage of the Airflow arose some elegant Chrysler designs.

+   A 1959 Buick hardtop in classy gray and silver two-tone built by Barry Penfound of Ohio, featured in Hot Rod Magazine back in around 2002, and called the LoSabre.

+   A Volkswagen Beetle with bodywork recreated in ornamental wrought iron. This is a recurring theme in custom VWs over the years, one we wish we knew more about.

+   An immaculate white 1955 Buick Century Hardtop sporting four portholes per fender, wide whitewalls, and a 322 CID Nailhead V8. The Century was Buick’s hot rod for ’55.

  1. I remember seeing a white wrought iron VW at the 1969 or 1970 New York Auto Show. I guess it’s just an easy shape to replicate and doesn’t require any trim to make it identifiable. That said, it’s even more impractical than most customs.

  2. Would love to be able to contact the owner of that 66 Dodge Charger from the 2013 cruise pictures Picture 33 of 50. I was the original owner’s son and have been trying to track that car down ever since it left Canada. If anyone can help please contact me. Thanks

  3. Ok so apparently everytime you visit this page, the pictures a rearranged. So the orange 66 charger is always in a different spot
