Video: A tribute to Dan Gurney, winner of the Edison-Ford Medal

Gurney 1966This week at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Dan Gurney was presented with the Edison-Ford Medal. This excellent video biography was produced for the occasion—enjoy.

This past week in Dearborn, The Henry Ford presented the Edison-Ford Medal for Innovation to Dan Gurney—only the second person to receive the award since it was established in 1989. The first was W. Edwards Deming, the ground-breaking industrial technologist.

Here is the point in our video setup where, by way of introduction, we could be ticking off some of Gurney’s important contributions in motorsports, including his game-changing Eagle Indy cars and his historic victory at LeMans in 1967 with A.J. Foyt. But Gurney requires no introduction: He’s the most beloved and familiar figure in American racing. And this little film is an excellent biographical tribute, full of great moments and memories. We’re sure you’ll enjoy it.

  1. Impressive resume. I was actually most surprised by the fact that he invented the champagne spraying celebration.
