Video: 1965 Lotus-Ford — Indy 500 Winner

1965 Lotus-Ford Indy WinnerHere’s the perfect warmup for this weekend’s Indy 500: a new and truly first-class video history of one of the legendary Indy winners, Jim Clark’s 1965 Lotus-Ford, courtesy of The Henry Ford. Please enjoy.

As you know, here at Mac’s Motor City Garage we’re big boosters of The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. We’re also fans of The Henry Ford’s excellent historical videos, and we’ve featured a few of them here. This latest video might be the best one yet: a meaty, in-depth history of one of the museum’s most prized possessions, the Lotus-Ford in which Jim Clark won the 1965 Indianapolis 500.

Of all the legendary racers that have won the annual 500-mile sweepstakes, the Lotus-Ford 38 is easily among the best-known and most influential, and it also happens to be one of the great stories in Speedway history. Speaking of history, you’ll find an impressive amount of substance packed into the nine minutes below—and plenty of style, too. Without further ado, here’s the video.

  1. The video is very good. Nice to see Gurney getting the credit he deserves for bringing Chapman and Ford together.
