Video: 1964 London Motor Show at Earl’s Court

1964 British Motor ShowHere’s the best of the British auto industry in October of 1964, live via newsreel from the London Motor Show at Earl’s Court.

Courtesy of the awesome video archives of British Pathé News, we are blessed with this excellent newsreel coverage of the 1964 London Motor Show at Earl’s Court—officially known as the British International Motor Show. If you’re into the unusual and obscure in British cars, you’re in for a treat. Just a few of the sights here:

+   The Elva GT160 BMW, here billed as the Elva Grand Tourer, which made its debut at this show. Only three prototypes were produced, reportedly.

+   The Singer Chamois, an upmarket version of the Hillman Imp in leather and walnut. A more charming example of British badge engineering would be difficult to find.

+   A motorized four-part cutaway of a Morris Mini, brilliantly executed to display the cabin interior and running gear. Could this amazing thing still exist, we wonder?

+   The Humber Imperial, a super-executive variant of the Series V Humber Super Snipe with vinyl roof covering, automatic transmission, and other amenities.

…and more wonders from the British and European motor industries circa 1964. Enjoy the video.
