The Good Stuff at the 2015 North American International Auto Show

1951 Alfa-Romeo Alfetta Grand Premio Tipo 159It’s become a Mac’s Motor City Garage tradition. Here, we set aside the serious auto industry news at NAIAS for a moment to check out all the truly neat stuff on display. Join the fun.

MCG feels like he owes the nice people at Alfa Romeo an apology. Sure, MCG was in physical attendance at the Cobo Center press conference for the official reveal of the 2015 4C Spider, but he didn’t hear a word anyone said. Instead, his attention was totally absorbed by the two stunning vintage Alfa Grand Prix racers on the stage: a 1932 Tipo B P3 and a 1951 Alfetta Tipo 159 (above). But honestly: How do they expect gearheads to stay focused on the business at hand in the presence of two such magnificent distractions?

There are plenty of these distractions on the exhibit floor in Detroit, if you happen to be looking for them: vintage and classic vehicles, current and historic race cars, technical demonstrators, cutaway displays, and more. We’ve included a few of them here, along with some interesting concepts and new model introductions not included in our regular auto show coverage. Gallery below.

  1. Although the rear of the new Ford GT is neither attractive or unattractive, the taillights give us the rocket exhaust appearance that they tried so hard for in the early Sixties. I love ’em!
