Saturday Morning CarTune: On the Road Again

Willie NelsonLive from the Grand Ole Opry, Willie Nelson performs his Grammy-winning signature song, “On the Road Again.”

This seems like the right place to report that the Saturday Morning CarTune is coming to an end as a weekly feature. It was fun combining two passions, cars and music, and the angle drew a nice response in the beginning. But as the audience at Mac’s Motor City Garage has continued to grow (and we thank you for that) the CarTune department has not kept up.

Some of the selections do well—-the Beach Boys-style California car songs are always popular, and the old country trucker favorites, too—but overall, the demand isn’t there to sustain a weekly feature. Garage visitors vote with their mouse buttons, and when you talk, we listen. That said, we hope to circle back and revisit the feature now and then for a special song or occasion. There’s no shortage of great road music, that’s for sure.

Take this tune, for instance. Is there a better way to wind things up than with Willie Nelson and his favorite piece of traveling music?  This live performance was recorded at the Grand Ole Opry for Country Music Television.

  1. Sorry to see this feature go away but I understand, business is business. Just promise me that you’ll consider posting the great Dictators’ tune, “(I live for) Cars and Girls” if I ever find an excellent live version…

  2. I guess I’m in the minority. As usual. Got turned on to some fine tunes here.

    As it’s coming to an end, guess I’ll leave this here;

  3. Yeah, this actually introduced me to some musics I would have otherwise never listened to. But it’s understandable, and I hope the rest of the site is doing better.
