Saturday Morning CarTune: Detroit Made

SegerBob Seger salutes the Motor City with a hard-rocking new video, “Detroit Made,” an advance single from his upcoming album, Ride Out.

Detroiters are proud to call Bob Seger one of their own. He was born in Dearborn, raised in Ann Arbor, and in the ’60s he and his bands played—relentlessly—every bar and ballroom in the Motor City. Seger wrote the autoworkers’ anthem, “Makin’ Thunderbirds,” and his ground-breaking (five times platinum) concert album, Live Bullet, was recorded at Detroit’s Cobo Arena on two magical nights in September of 1975.

Next month, Seger will release his first new record since Face the Promise in 2006, a 13-song LP called Ride Out. (You can pre-order it at Amazon or at ITunes.) The advance video featured here, a high-energy cover of John Hiatt’s “Detroit Made,” includes a number of Motor City landmarks—see how many you can spot—and some tasty footage from the Woodward Dream Cruise. It was so much fun we brought back the Saturday Morning CarTune feature just for this occasion. Good times, watch.
