 Volkswagen Group’s former top engineer, Wolfgang Hatz, has been arrested by German prosecutors in connection with the automaker’s diesel-rigging scandal. More at Automotive News Europe. 

 At the State Fair of Texas, Ford introduced the F-450 Super Duty Limited, a luxury pickup with 30,000 lbs. of towing capacity, V8 diesel power, and a list price of $94,455. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

  China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has set a deadline of 2019 to impose tough new sales targets for electric plug-in and hybrid vehicles, slightly relaxing an earlier plan. More at Reuters. 

 Team Penske has confirmed it will compete in the Petit Le Mans IMSA season finale with drivers Juan Pablo Montoya, Helio Castroneves, and Simon Pagenaud. More at NBC Sports.  

+   Carlos Ghosn, the chairman and chief executive of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, says he expects the U.S. auto market to remain flat and without growth for the next several years. More at CNBC. 

 Delphi Automotive PLC will split into two companies in March 2018: Aptiv, focused on autonomous vehicles; and Delphi Technologies, a powertrain company. More at The Detroit News. 

+   To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet trucks, General Motors will offer Special Edition centennial models of the Silverado and Colorado pickups. More at Motor Trend. 

+   At the Orange County Auto Show in Anahiem, California, Hyundai introduced to America its larger, more upscale 2018 Accent sedan, which goes on sale later this fall. More at Kelly Blue Book.

+   A 1913 Stevens-Duryea with a long, rich history in the car hobby will be offered at the Bonhams Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum sale on October 2. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Replacement driver Pierre Gasly says he feels sympathy for Daniil Kvyat after taking over the Russian’s seat at Toro Rosso from this weekend’s Malaysia Grand Prix. More at Racer.

  1. Interest in the automobile is fading, and it isn’t helped when all you do to celebrate a centennial is to slap a badge on it. The anniversaries of Chevy, Buick and Oldsmobile were woefully ignored. I understand that we can’t do one-off models anymore like in 1958, but you could at least offer a book or something. Take a one year 1% cut off the executive salaries and order up a special grille.
