+   Brock Yates, longtime writer for Car and Driver magazine, screenwriter, broadcast announcer, and one of America’s leading automotive journalists, has passed away at 82. More at Car and Driver. 

+   The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice announced a $28 million settlement with Detroit Diesel for engines sold in 2010 that allegedly violated emissions standards. More at The Detroit News. 

+   Volkswagen has chosen the name Atlas for its production SUV based on the CrossBlue concept, and will debut the vehicle on October 27 in California. More at AutoGuide.

+   Earnings at the U.S. automakers are expected to decline in the next two years due to lower sales, Goldman Sachs forecasts, downgrading the sector to “cautious” from “neutral.” More at Reuters. 

+   Haas Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean says he plans to tone down his emotional radio transmissions to the pits for fears they will be misinterpreted. More at ESPN. 

+   U.S. traffic deaths jumped 10.4 percent in the first six months of 2016, according to an estimate from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. More at CNBC. 

+   Jeep confirmed it is planning a rebirth of the Grand Wagoneer as an ultra-luxury SUV, boasting a price in the $140,000 range and components shared with the Maserati Levante. More at Motor Trend.  

+   In advance of the SEMA performance industry trade show in Las Vegas next month, Ford is teasing a quartet of modified F-150 concept trucks. More at Autoblog. 

+   One of 31 cars built to meet FIA homologation requirements, a rare 1966 Ford GT in road car specification will be featured at the Atlanta Concours d’Elegance on October 9. More at Hemmings Daily.

+   Though his full-time IndyCar position at Penske Racing has been claimed by Josef Newgarden, Juan Montoya could have an Indy 500 ride with the team in 2017. More at Racer. 

+   Uber Technologies and Lyft Inc. were ordered by a state court judge to stop operating some of their ride-hailing services in the city of Philadelphia. More at Bloomberg.com.
