Today’s headlines: 

+   General Motors reportedly will move production of some light pickups from Silao, Mexico to its Flint, Michigan plant, which currently employs around 2,800 workers. More at The Detroit News. 

+   U.S. shares of Takata Corp. surged on reports that private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts could stage a takeover of the troubled Japanese airbag maker. More at USA Today. 

+   BMW chief executive Harald Krueger is poised to shake up the automaker’s top management by replacing its finance and purchasing heads, Germany’s Manager Magazin reports. More at Reuters. 

+   Automotive industry supplier Flex-N-Gate will invest $95 million in a new plant in central Detroit that is expected to employ up to 750 workers. More at the Detroit Free Press.

+   With both a reserved-ticket and general-admission sellout at next Sunday’s Indianapolis 500, the local television blackout of the race has been lifted for the first time in history. More at the Indianapolis Star. 

+   The revamped UK motoring show Top Gear will return to television screens this weekend with a new cast including Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc, and Edie Jordan. More at Automotive News Europe. 

+   Cosworth will build a $30 million manufacturing plant in Detroit to supply V8 engines for an unnamed automaker, joining Cosworth facilities in Mooresville, North Carolina and Indianapolis, Indiana. More at Autocar. 

+   Ford has filed trademark papers to secure the model name Zephyr, originally employed by Lincoln from 1936 through 1942 and most recently used in 2006. More at Autoblog.

+   Google will establish a new self-driving technology center in Novi, Michigan, just northwest of Detroit, where the first project will be a self-driving Chrysler Pacifica. More at Motor Trend. 

+   Notable sales at this year’s Mecum Indianapolis auction included a 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 at $1.1 million, a 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda Hemi Coupe at $425,000, and a 1969 Yenko Camaro at $260,000. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   The NASCAR Hall of Fame class of 2017 has been named: Benny Parsons, Rick Hendrick, Mark Martin, Raymond Parks, and Richard Childress. More at Fox Sports.
