+   General Motors has promoted product executive Mark Reuss to the post of president to succeed Dan Ammann, while Mary Barra continues as chairman and CEO. More at The Detroit News. 

+   U.S. auto sales rose 2.2 percent in December, capping a year that saw overall volume rise 0.6 percent as slumping car sales were offset by climbing truck figures. More at Automotive News. 

+   The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has approved the limited use of rear-view video cameras to replace the side mirrors in large trucks. More at Commercial Carrier Journal.

+   BMW is actively planning a true hybrid supercar inspired by the i8 but with twice the power, according to  Klaus Fröhlich, the automaker’s chief of product development. More at Autocar. 

+   Corvette Racing announced that the team will continue with the same C7.R race cars and the same roster of drivers in the ALMS GT Le Mans category in 2019. More at Racer. 

 The share price of Tesla Inc. tumbled this week when the company missed a Wall Street production target for the fourth quarter of 2018 and announced a series of price cuts. More at CNBC.  

 Some Arizona residents are attacking Waymo’s self-driving vehicle test fleet, throwing rocks, slashing tires, and pulling a gun on one vehicle attendant. More at Motor Trend. 

 General Motors totaled 200,000 electric vehicle sales in the United States by the end of 2018, triggering a phase-out of the $7,500 federal tax credit over the next 15 months. More at Reuters. 

+   Featured attractions at the Mecum Auctions 2019 Kissimmee, Florida, sale this week will include a 1965 Shelby 289 Cobra, the last example sold to the public. More at Hemmings Daily. 

 Roush Fenway Racing president Newmark has confirmed that the team has closed down its Xfinity program and will not field an entry in the junior NASCAR series in 2019. More at Yahoo! Sports.
