 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission to block the sale of the Jeep-like Mahindra Roxor ATV in the USA. More at Motor Trend. 

 Toyota Motor Corporation logged a better than expected performance in the second  quarter, reporting a 7.2 percent leap in quarterly profits to a record 5.9 billion. More at The Detroit News. 

+   General Motors will invite a group of white hat hackers to probe its operations and vehicle software, offering a cash bounty for vulnerabilities they discover. More at Forbes.

+   Renault-bound Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo says he is “sad” to be ending his long-standing relationship with Red Bull, but insists the timing was right for a change. More at Motorsport.com.

+   With 14,250 units sold in July, the Tesla Model 3 sedan is now listed among the top  10 passenger car sellers in America and among the top 20 vehicles overall. More at Autoblog. 

+   The Dick’s Classic Car Garage museum in San Marcos, Texas will close permanently on December 31 and the car collection will be auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Nissan has agreed to sell its electric car battery unit, with operations in the U.S. and U.K, to the Chinese renewable energy firm Envision Group for an undisclosed sum. More at Automotive News Europe.

+   The IMSA sports car series has mapped out its plans for 2019 with two separate categories for Daytona Prototype international (DPi) and global LMP2-spec cars. More at Autosport.

  1. I don’t understand how Mahindra can get away with that. Their ATV is a blatant Jeep copy.

    • It’s a copy of a Jeep CJ-7 that went out of production in 1986. Further, they have a license for the building Jeeps that goes back to the Willys days, if not Kaiser. In a sense, they have more vested in the Jeep than FCA.

      It’s an off-road vehicle and can’t be licensed for the street. Either an emissions or safety issue. So it doesn’t compete against the Jeep. It sells for something like $15k instead of the Jeep’s $30k, so people aren’t shopping the same market.

      • Andy – I was going to reply but you covered everything I was going to say ( & probably did a better job ). I will add that Mahindra makes some really good stuff. I am waiting for the Mahindra small pickup to be imported. I would certainly buy one of those over the Chevy Montana or front wheel drive, no frame, joke of a PU that Ford is planning for next year.

  2. I was forced to watch the recent royal wedding but the cars were a consolation prize.
