+   Volkswagen announced it is not interested in taking a stake in Tesla, denying a media report that CEO Herbert Diess wants to buy shares in the American EV maker. More at Reuters. 

 Ford of Europe Chairman Steven Armstrong has been named to serve as president of the Changan-Ford joint venture in China, replacing the retiring Nigel Harris. More at Automotive News Europe.

+   Legendary Detroit automotive journalist and photographer Jim Dunne, who pioneered the craft of automotive spy photography, has passed away at 87. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 Joie Chitwood III will resign as CEO of International Speedway Corporation in November as the company’s acquisition by NASCAR is accomplished. More at the Daytona Beach News-Journal. 

+  For its first all-electric vehicle, Lexus will reportedly build a small, urban hatchback that will make its first public appearance at the Tokyo Auto Show this fall. More at The Drive. 

 President Donald Trump attacked the Ford Motor Company for joining with three other automakers and the state of California to embrace stricter fuel mileage standards. More at CNBC.

+  Four years of strong profits for the Detroit automakers all but ensures the United Auto Workers will seek significant hourly wage increases as contract talks continue. More at The Detroit News.

+   General Motors has confirmed that the 2020 Chevy Bolt electric sedan is getting more range, with the official EPA rating boosted to 259 miles, compared to 238 miles in 2019. More at Autoblog. 

+   A 2017 Ford GT and five vintage Corvettes from the Jim Mangione collection will be among the headliners at the RM Auctions Auburn Fall Sale on August 29-September 1. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

+   Formula 1 series management has unveiled video of its 2021 aerodynamic package, which features a ground-effect system engineered to encourage overtaking. More at Motorsport.com.
