+  A U.S. federal judge urged the Securities and Exchange Commission and Volkswagen Group to resolve a civil suit stemming from diesel emissions violations. More at Automotive News Europe. 

+  Former United Auto Workers vice president Joe Ashton is the union official accused in a federal complaint of demanding $550,000 in kickbacks and bribes, sources allege. More at The Detroit News. 

 German car rental company Nextmove has abandoned a $5.55 million order for 85 Tesla 3 sedans due to a dispute with the automaker over quality control issues. More at Reuters. 

 Three-time Rallycross champion Scott Speed suffered three broken vertebrae in a hard landing in the Nitro World Games at the Utah Motorsports Campus. More at Racer. 

 According to a study from Insurify, the 10 vehicles whose drivers earn the most speeding tickets include the Subaru WRX, Scion FR-S, and Volkswagen GTI. More at the Detroit Free Press.

+   Following a bizarre auction-house blunder that began as an awkward joke, the sole remaining 1939 Porsche failed to sell after bidding seemed to top out at $17 million. More at Bloomberg.com. 

 Magna International opened a $50 million factory in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan that will employ 600 workers making automotive camera systems. More at Crain’s Detroit Business. 

+  Poor planning and a rushed design are blamed for the failure of France’s Wattway solar road, an experimental road one kilometer in length made up of solar panels. More at CNET Roadshow. 

+  Robert Wickens, who suffered severe injuries in an IndyCar crash at Pocono last season, called the series’ relationship with the track “toxic” after a first-lap crash at this year’s event. More at Motorsport.com.
