Learn all about the revolutionary 1955 Chevrolet in this info-packed factory promotional film.
Chevrolet had plenty of news for 1955 with an all-new body, chassis, and the sensational 265 cubic-inch V8. The Chevy people had no idea at the time, of course, but the small-block V8 would become the most popular V-8 in history. More than 100 million Chevy V8s were produced, and they would eventually be used in the vehicles of every General Motors division, even Cadillac. The Chevy’s chassis and suspension were totally redesigned as well with some interesting and innovative engineering features—as we’ve detailed in the feature you can check out here.
To tell all these important stories for ’55, Chevrolet launched probably the biggest marketing campaign in its history to date with a blizzard of print, radio, and TV materials, including this nifty little movie entitled Great News! The format mimics the typical television news programs of the period, and the presenter is a well-known radio and television newsman of his time, Robert Trout (1909-2000). Known as “the iron man” for his live, off-the-cuff reporting abilities, here he bangs out an impressive amount of useful information in just 10 minutes. Video below.
Small world, I was just reading about Robert Trout in a story on WWII radio journalists. Reportedly he was one of the best.
Wow what a story
