Now celebrating its 25th year, the EyesOn Design car show held each Father’s Day is a must-see, must-do for Detroit area gearheads. If you’re a car guy or girl, attendance is mandatory. It’s as simple as that.
As the name indicates, EyesOn Design is unique among vintage and classic car shows in that the focus in on design — on the visual. The show benefits the Detroit Institute of Opthalmology (DIO) whose mission is to assist and educate the visually impaired, help preserve vision, and support eye research. This year’s show is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with nearly 300 cars invited to appear.
Special categories in the 2012 show include the Shelby Snake Pit, featuring nearly 50 Shelby-branded vehicles (previously covered by MCG here) and an 80th anniversary celebration of the Deuce — the 1932 Ford. Other attractions include groups for Woodies, Pony Cars, and an always impressive selection of motorcycles.
This year’s EyesOn Design collector’s poster was created by Tom Hale (left), one of America’s best-known automotive artists. (He also did the 2006 poster.) The 2012 artwork for EyesOn Design features a stunning Lincoln Continental. Signed editions of the posters will be available at the show and by mail from the DIO’s website.
The EyesOn Design Automotive Design Exhibition takes place at the Eleanor and Edsel Ford House at 1100 Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan from 10 AM to 4:30 PM on Father’s Day, June 17, 2012. More info can be found at the event website.
