Cleveland Goes Rad at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum

Take in some ’80s and ’90s anthropology and enjoy the cars of the era as well in a new show coming to the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum in Cleveland.

The sensation known as RADwood is coming the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum at the Cleveland History Center. Opening on January 10, RADwood: Cleveland Goes Rad explores the culture that shaped a generation of car enthusiasts now entering their thirties and beyond.

Founded in 2017 by car guys Bradley Brownell, Rick Deacon, Art Cervantes, and Lane Skelton, RADwood began as a casual popup car show and soon became an international happening. With several shows under their belt, including at the prestigious Petersen Museum in Los Angeles, now the organizers have partnered with the Western Reserve Historical Society and the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum to present the event in Cleveland.

Guests to the show are encouraged to start their journey in the museum’s core exhibit, Cleveland Starts Here, sponsored by the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Foundation, to take in some ’80s and ’90s Cleveland history before heading to the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum for a deep drive into the cars and clothing of the era. The exhibition will feature 80s and 90s era cars from the Crawford Collection and from private collectors as well, and each vignette will be complemented with examples of lifestyle and fashion of the era. Highlights will include the first production DeLorean, originally owned by Cleveland native Charles DeLorean (brother of John Z. DeLorean), and a 1982 PPG Pace Car used in the inaugural Cleveland Grand Prix.

RADwood: Cleveland Goes Rad will open Thursday, January 10, 2019 with a 90s-theme party from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Guests to this ticketed event are encouraged to come dressed in ’80s and ’90s fashion, meet and greet RADwood’s founders, and soak up the hit sounds of the times while enjoying a sneak peek at the new exhibit. The show will be open to the public through Sunday, March 24, 2019.
