Cars and Stars–volume four

Janis Joplin 1965 Porsche 356C CabioletPresenting another edition of a very popular feature here at Mac’s Motor City Garage: Cars and Stars.

The Cars and Stars photo essays are a major hit here at the Garage, and we’re not entirely sure why. As gearheads, we probably don’t think of ourselves as fans of celebrity. Our idols might include Frank Lockhart and Grumpy Jenkins, not pop singers, politicians, or television stars.

Still, when we look over these images, even we can appreciate how these people all became national, even world figures. These individuals have a presence that leaps right off the photos at us. They might be talented or powerful, famous or infamous, possessed with rare grace or simply brats, but as the photos illustrate, here are some memorable personalities. With their cars.

  1. What amazes me is , with the exception of 2, these are all older pictures and stars, where the cars were as outstanding as the stars. I highly doubt in 50 years people will be looking at pictures of today’s stars, if any, modeling in front of the Kia Optima.

    • I am slowly working in more contemporary celebrities. Eventually I’ll include Justin Beiber and his Lamborghini, and then I’ll be hauled off and tarred and feathered.

  2. After seeing Yvonne Craig and that Packard Touring, I’d like to remind you about Emma Peel’s Lotus Elan. I can’t remember if we’ve seen her before and only could find the 3rd installment of Cars & Stars.

  3. Nice that you got a couple recently passed stars. I had to look up who Adam Levine was. My favorite was Grant’s Buick.

  4. Hi “Mac…” Life-long “motorhead ” here…thank you so much for the work YOU do…’been followin’ your site & it’s fantactic!!! I sincerely appreciate the tribute you gave of Benson Ford’s passing recently, with the added feature of the video showing the last voyage of the ford ore carrier in the 80’s….I had the opportunity of spending a large part of my childhood growing up within the fifth-largest ford dealership in new York state..(Hamilton Bros. ford/Lincoln/mercury) in Port Jervis, NY….imagining that the two brothers we’re a microcosm, (if you will), of Henry Ford & family. I strayed a bit here, but, a sincere thanks to YOU for the work you do…. I know that you love cars and what you do…Looking at the photo of you in the site, maybe I saw you at Limerock or Watkins glen maybe???, Whatever….what comes thru is that “mac” is “right there” on why we all love cars…. Thanks, Russ.
