Video: World’s Smallest Small-Block Chevy — See and Hear it Run

The people have spoken. You guys and girls who read Motor City Garage have shown how much you love functioning miniature engines. Very well then, we’ll kick it up a notch. Here’s an almost palm-sized Chevy V8 that runs like a charm.

This engine is the handiwork of Jim Moyer of Kettle Falls, Washington, You can visit his website here to learn more about his work. Unlike the 1:3 scale Ardun V8 or the 1:4 scale Offy featured earlier at MCG, this engine is an even teensier 1:6 scale, allowing it to be billed (by whoever determines these things) as “the world’s smallest Chevy V8.”

For size, then, this smallest of small-blocks matches the 1:6 scale Duesenberg straight eight built by Luois Chenot, also featured at MCG. This is the same scale normally used in the popular, but non-functioning, desk model engines available everywhere. We’re no experts on working scale engines, but we have to assume that as the size is reduced, the degree of difficulty in construction and machining rises at a frightening rate.

For those who appreciate such things (raise your hand) Moyer offers this 1:6 scale small-block Chevy timing cover, which would make a pretty awesome key fob or bracelet charm, we’re thinking. Constructed from 28 gauge steel and priced at only 15 bucks, it’s available here. Now check out the video below.
