One small jump for the Lotus F1 Team, one giant leap for social media. Here’s a tractor-trailer rig jumping a speeding Formula One car. It’s a Guiness world record, naturally.
Here’s your latest internet sensation, automotive category. (Other recent stuntfests here at the Garage include a 207 mph rocket-powered bicycle and Ken Block’s latest, Gymkhana 7.) The famed Lotus Formula One team teamed up with sponsor EMC, internet technology wizards, to produce this extravaganza. Mike Ryan, a talented stunt driver who specializes in big rigs, wheels the truck and serves as stunt choreographer, while the Lotus F1 car is piloted by veteran movie stuntman Martin Ivanov.
The result is a Guiness world record for semi-truck jumps, reportedly: 83 feet and 7 inches. And loads of valuable media exposure for EMC, the Lotus F1 Team, and truck maker Renault, you can be sure. Enjoy the stunt.

Been there. Done that. Would not recommend.
Cool. But it’s not Team Lotus; it’s Lotus F1 Team, formerly Renault F1, formerly Benetton Formula, formerly Toleman (commonly known these days – for understandable reasons – as “the Enstone team”, after its base of operations). While it has the right to the Lotus name in Formula 1, legally it’s not allowed to use the precise wording, “Team Lotus”.
It’s complicated. You could write a whole article on why.
Thanks for the catch.
