Video: The Beast of Turin roars again

Beast crankingMore than a century ago the 28.5-liter Fiat S76, better known as the Beast of Turin, was one of the most fearsome race cars on earth. In 2014, it roars again. Watch the video.

The video below was produced by Stefan Marjoram, who for several years now has been documenting the resurrection, by Duncan Pitaway and company, of the incredible 1911 Fiat racing car known as the Beast of Turin. (Our friends at The Old Motor have been covering the project—see the recap, including some amazing photos, here.) Powered by a monstrous four-cylinder engine of 1727 cubic inches, the Beast pounded the earth at 131 mph in Ostend, Belgium in December 1913,  with driver Arthur Duray and owner/riding mechanic Boris Soukanoff on board.

As we will see, this little clip is in fact the trailer for a film about the rebirth of the Beast, which is scheduled for release in February of 2015. We can’t wait to see it. In the meantime, enjoy the teaser.

  1. Son of a gun, I wasn’t ready for that! I think ” Beast” is putting it mildly. I sure didn’t think that half a crank would do it. That was cool. Reminds me a little of a 1940’s snowblower/truck I saw in the UP of Mich. at a museum. The truck was an FWD( or Oshkosh) with a huge Buda 4 cyl. engine on the back that ran the snowblower part on the front of the truck via driveshafts. It too had a long starter handle and no muffler. I imagine it must have taken Jethro Bodine to start THAT contraption in 0 weather.
