Video: The 1955 Turin Auto Show

See all the latest models from the United Kingdom and Europe for 1955 in this vintage newsreel feature covering the 37th Salone dell’Automobile di Torino—the Turin Motor Show.

We love to present these old newsreel items that reported on the great international auto shows of the past. They’re the soul of brevity, and they do a wonderful job of capturing all the interesting cars in history in their original contexts. This spot, originally intended for British theater goers, features the 1955 Turin Motor Show, where we encounter these noteworthy vehicles:

+   On the Lancia stand, a breathtaking little Aurelia B24S roadster. What a dreamboat.

+   On a turntable, the fantastic Ghia Gilda Streamline Coupe, a dart-shaped aerodynamic study by Giovanni Savonuzzi, who later became a chief research engineer at Chrysler.

+   At around the 40-second mark, a brief glimpse of the one-of-one 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith by Vignale, which some have called (not totally without grounds) the most unattractive Rolls-Royce ever created.

Also be sure to check out the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo stands, and the brief Rolls/Bentley item at the end. Video follows.
