Indy 500 polesitter Scott Dixon walked away from one of the most potentially dangerous crashes in recent memory at the 2017 Indianapolis 500. Watch this 60 seconds of amazing video. 

We’ll give you the best and most important news first: Both Scott Dixon and Jay Howard walked away from this harrowing crash on lap 53 of today’s 2017 Indianapolis 500. As he was overtaken by Ryan Hunter-Reay in Turn 1, Jay Howard drifted up out of the groove and into the outside wall. As his damaged car swept down across the track, it was collected by polesitter and four-time IndyCar series champion  Scott Dixon, whose car then launched into the air and went for a terrifying ride along the top of the inside wall.

This must be one of the most potentially dangerous trajectories an IndyCar can take, but fortunately, we can repeat that when everything came to a stop, Dixon unbuckled himself from his broken racer and walked away. And again, Jay Howard was unscathed as well—along with Helio Castroveves, too, who drove directly underneath Dixon’s flying car and went on to finish second to eventual race winner Takuma Sato.
