Got 10 minutes? Here’s NASCAR Cup champion Joey Logano to instruct us on the mysteries of driving the Model T Ford.
Here’s the stuff you probably knew about NASCAR star Joey Logano: He’s the 2018 NASCAR Cup champion, and he drives the no. 22 Ford Mustang for Penske Racing, one of the top rides in the business. Nicknamed “Sliced Bread” (as in the best thing since sliced bread) when he entered the sport, he was the youngest driver ever to win a NASCAR Cup event at just 18 years and 21 days, and since then he’s claimed a total of 22 Cup victories.
Now here’s some stuff that maybe you didn’t know: Logano is also a passionate vintage car collector, and his favorite is—of all things—a 1924 Ford Model T. He says he enjoys driving the T more than his 2018 Ford GT, and for a young guy, Logano is surprisingly knowledgeable about Model T history and lore. Naturally, in the five or six years he’s owned his ’24 Touring, he’s mastered the ins and outs of driving a Model T, which is remarkably unlike any other car currently on the road. For starters, there are three pedals, but none of them control the throttle—it’s a lever. We’ll let Mr. Logano take it from there, including how to start the engine and operate the two-speed planetary transmission. Video below.
Screw Lagono, he can’t even drive a race car right.
Right, what would Roger Penske know about drivers?
