Here’s a twist: In-car video of Jimmie Johnson wheeling his Sprint Cup Chevrolet at Road Atlanta—a track where NASCAR doesn’t currently race.
In this clip from Jimmie’s own YouTube channel, the five-time Cup champ is wearing some sort of HD video headgear or eyewear we barely get to see. Our view is over the dash and down the track, and a mighty fine view it is (see still image above). Apart from the usual, here are a few observations:
+ Jimmie Johnson is a highly proficient road race driver.
+ Road Atlanta is still a driver’s track.
+ It sure would be great if NASCAR held a race there.
Of course, teams like Hendrick Motorsports are permitted to use Road Atlanta for testing because the facility does not currently host a NASCAR event. The track was presumably chosen for this August 1 test due to its rough similarity to Watkins Glen, where the Cup boys are racing this weekend. Video below.
