REVISED AND UPDATED — We don’t even like TV commercials as a rule, but Honda’s famous 2003 spot, known as Cog, was a work of art. Watch this.
Honda’s award-winning television ad, Cog, might be the greatest car commercial that most Americans have never seen. It was officially broadcast only a few times in the United Kingdom and Europe and never in the United States. Now more than 12 years old, the spot made quite a splash in its day. It even has its own Wikipedia page, where you can learn about the ad’s production and history.
An early example of viral marketing on the web, the commercial was described by Peter York of the UK Independent as “the water-cooler ad conversation of the year. ” Anyway, if you’ve seen the spot before you’re probably ready to see it again. If you haven’t seen it, you’re in for a treat. Grab the popcorn.
