Video: Build This Sweet-Running Miniature V8 With Simple Hand Tools

This tiny V8 not only runs beautifully, it’s available in complete kit form and can be assembled with simple hand tools. Check out the jewel-like internal details.

We were amazed by the quality and attention to detail in this miniature V8 kit produced by Cison of China. Around 1:6 scale and displacing 44cc, it’s constructed much like a classic American pushrod V8—except that it’s really tiny. And it runs like a dream. As the video below shows, the assembly operations are extensive, so it’s hardly an afternoon project. But none of the work appears to be difficult, and it can all be accomplished with simple hand tools with no machining required.

At a little more than $2000, the Cison kit could never be called cheap, and more dollars will be required for the engine stand and running accessories. But then, this is no toy. It’s a complete, running V8 engine in miniature.  Be advised that this is absolutely not an endorsement of the product. We’re only admiring from afar. We’ve heard stories about problems with shipping, deliveries, and even getting instructions in English on these model engines from China, and frankly, we don’t know what’s what.

So please, do your due diligence with the vendor before sending along your hard-earned funds. We’re sharing this video because we were taken with the jewel-like quality of the components and what looks like a satisfying and enjoyable assembly experience. Caveat emptor, we say. Enjoy the video.

  1. Yes, $2000 is a lot of money but it’s still incredible they can do it for that little.
