Video: A 3D Deep Dive into the 2022 NASCAR Next-Gen Race Car

Courtesy of an excellent 3D digital animation, here’s the best look yet into the technical hardware of the 2022 NASCAR Next-Gen Cup racer.

As of this writing, we’re now more than a half-dozen races into the 2022 NASCAR Cup season, and by all accounts, the Next-Gen race car introduced this year is doing a solid job. Easily the biggest technical change in on-track machinery in the history of the series, the new race car has now demonstrated its capablities on every type of NASCAR circuit: superspeedway, short track, intermediate, and road course. Teething problems have been relatively few, while none of the fears about the new package seem to have materialized. We’ve noticed how little the new race car has been in the NASCAR headlines this year, and that’s surely a good thing.

Here at Mac’s Motor City Garage, we’ve reported on the new race car and its radically different features, including the three-piece modular chassis, independent rear suspension and transaxle, and composite body construction. (See our story from May 2021, NASCAR Goes High-Tech: Deep Inside the Next-Gen 2022 Race Cars.)  However, this digital 3D animation from Jake O’Neal of the Animagraffs YouTube channel offers such stunning visuals and fine detail that we just had to share it here. It’s nearly 20 minutes long but it dives right in. It’s all killer, no filler, as we say. Video below.

  1. Given the mission of 40 teams running in 36 races, the new Cup car is excellent engineering.
