Here’s five minutes sure to light up your day: a wonderful film recap of the 1967 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in clean, bright color. Enjoy.
Of course, you probably already know how this race, the 1967 U.S. Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, turned out. Two-time F1 champion Jim Clark and his teammate Graham Hill dominated the event with their new Cosworth DFV-powered Lotus 49s, as Hill qualified on pole and led the first half of the race, while Clark ruled the final half, reaching the checkered flag first with a lead of six seconds.
Yes, we knew all that, but we weren’t really looking for a race report. We were drawn to this film for the wonderful way it captures a truly magical time in racing, one that will never be repeated. Check out the beautiful little vignette of Jim Clark that opens the clip, and see the historic Watkins Glen circuit just as it was in 1967. Time travel is impossible, the physicists tell us, but this little five-minute movie might be the next best thing. Please enjoy.
Thanks, MCG. Cool video. I built many a model of those cars. Looks like Ford gave Mr. Clark a new Galaxie 500 to drive around. Must have been a blast to drive these cars. Grand Prix was one of my favorite movies( and I think I spotted a few scenes they must have used). I would rather have heard more engines and less Benny Goodman, but still neat.
What an awesome video. The Glen looks so different, can’t believe pit road.
I believe the 1961 US Grand Prix was in fact the inaugural F1 race at the Glen. Innes Ireland the victor driving for Team Lotus….not 1967 ????
You are absolutely right. Correction made. Amazing how the strangest errors sneak in.
Great video, lots of neat little moments!
I was there in 1963, 1967 & 1968.
Merci Jimmy and Graham !
