The annual Motor Muster at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan is a beloved tradition of Father’s Day weekend. Here’s our review with a big photo gallery.
The theme of this year’s Motor Muster at Greenfield Village was the 70th anniversay of the Ford Thunderbird, and wow, there were plenty of choice T-Birds on hand to help with the celebration. In fact, we could have filled the entire photo gallery of our coverage with Thunderbirds of every vintage, but then we wouldn’t have room left for all the other exceptional vehicles this event always seems to draw, in all their wonderful variety. A few of them:
+ A 1975 AM General M925 6×6 military cargo truck, powered by an 855 cubic-inch Cummins diesel. A mere photo doesn’t communicate how large and intimidating this monster is, especially when it’s in motion.
+ A gorgeous 1955 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe in the popular two-tone catalog colors of Seminole Scarlet and Black. We’d like to see more mid-’50s Plymouths on the collector car scene.
+ A 1939 Cadillac Sixty Special, the trend-setting car that launched the career of young stylist Bill Mitchell, who eventually became vice-president of the entire General Motors design operation.
+ Speaking of Thunderbirds (though it’s technically not a Thunderbird), the Henry Ford Museum brought over the one and only 1962 XT-Bird Budd prototype, a modified ’57 T-Thunderbird on a Falcon chassis that was proposed for the market slot that was eventually filled by the Mustang.
You can find all these noteworthy vehicles and a few dozen more in the gallery below. Click on any image to start a slide show.
Great photos! I would happily look at another 28, and another, and …
The Ford GPW is interesting. I would like to learn the similarities and differences to the Willys version. Could that be a feature in the future?
