The Woodward Dream Cruise in August is the biggest cruise in the Detroit area, but it’s not the only major cruise here, not by a long shot. Here’s a photo revue of this weekend’s Telegraph Road Cruise.
Motor City Garage has no way to validate this claim, but we are just going to throw down anyway and assert that the Detroit metropolitan area has more enthusiast cars per capita than any other geographic region in America. It sure looks that way when the summer cruise season is under way and the boulevards are flooded with every type of gearhead-mobile imaginable, from street rods to muscle cars to vintage sports cars, in a density you won’t encounter anywhere else. Hey, they don’t call this the Motor City for nothing.
Telegraph Road was a popular cruising and street racing venue back in the day, just like Woodward, so it’s only natural for a revival cruise today. The official event route includes the communities of Taylor, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and Redford Township, a stretch of Telegraph Road amounting to nearly 15 miles.
Below is a sample of the cars on hand at this weekend’s 2012 Telegraph Cruise.
Note: Since a cruise is a car show on the hoof, so to speak, it can be difficult to track down and connect the cars and their owners. As a result, only a handful of the vehicles in the gallery here include owner info. If anyone in the MCG audience can help fill in the blanks on these vehicles, please drop a note to mcg@macsmotorcitygarage.com or into the reply box below and the info will be updated. We like to give credit where it’s due.
Thanks! -mcg
Alas… where are all the old cruise cars from MY day, like the great Al Woodward Corvette, the Streetmaster ’74 Camaro and so many more from the day? I must have spent half my youth out there driving up and down between Ford Rd and the freeway…
That’s my uncle! It’s still in his garage not sure if he take it out as much.
Just sending out a Thanks to Macs Motor City Garage – we never miss a cruise and always like seeing pictures of our 1975 Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino…. Keep the Wheels down and the Rev on High…….
You’re more than welcome. I’m sure lots of people get a kick out of seeing your Gran Torino, complete with red flasher…
