Something to Cheer About: A 1941 Ford Film

Explore the many features of the all-new 1941 Ford DeLuxe and Super DeLuxe in this original factory promotional film.

In September of 1940, Ford introduced an all-new passenger car line with a significantly wider, roomier body shell and an improved chassis with a stiffer frame and a longer 114-inch wheelbase. Curb weight now exceeded 3,000 lbs for the first time, while the front seat was a full 56 inches wide, offering actual three-abreast seating. Clearly, this was the biggest and most luxurious Ford V8 yet.

In truth, the automaker was reaching the practical limits of its venerable torque-tube, buggy-spring chassis, which in its basic form dated all the way back to 1908 and the birth of the Model T. This 1941 platform would remain in production through 1948, and though it was becoming badly dated by then, it remained a respectable seller. That was no doubt thanks in part to the appeal of Ford’s powerful flathead V8, which for ’41 was rated at 90 horsepower. Prices ranged from $730 to $1015, closely shadowing the $712 to $995 prices of rival Chevrolet.

We’d like to mention here that with the addition of the video below, we now have not one but two original factory films on the 1941 Ford product line. (You can review the other one here.) The first video goes into considerable detail on all the engine and chassis improvements for ’41, while this latest clip is focused on the body and interior features, covering both Ford trim levels that year, DeLuxe and Super DeLuxe. We note that the Super offers fancier bumpers, crank-operated vent windows, and upgraded upholstery fabrics. Video below.
