Coming next Sunday, Father’s Day: One of the great vintage car shows in America, in the support of a wonderful cause, the annual EyesOn Design Automotive Exhibition. Here’s our report from this week’s media preview.
This coming Sunday is Father’s Day, and time once again for a Motor City gearhead tradition: the EyesOn Design Automotive Design Exhibition at the fabulous Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Point Shores, just northeast of Detroit. The 32nd annual show, which once again benefits a truly worthy cause, the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, features more than 300 noteworthy collector vehicles of every kind.
Conceived and first organized by the Motor City’s automotive design community, EyesOn Design has a special character you won’t find in any other major show. In this event the focus is on automotive design, and the display categories are structured to showcase the trends and themes in design over the decades. So unlike many annual car shows, EyesOn Design is fresh and new every year.
This year’s top-line theme is “Design Around the World,” and the dozens of vehicle categories include:
+ The Classic Era
+ European Styling with American Power
+ Station Wagons, Estates, and Shooting Brakes
+ Lifetime Design Achievement Award: Leonardo Fiorivanti
+ Custom Motorcycle Revolution
+ GM Concept to Production
And many more, including classes for three decades of sports cars and a special category for the short-lived 1948 Playboy, the pride of Buffalo, New York. It’s easy to see why USA Today named EyesOn Design one of the top five classic car shows in America, and we can’t wait for this year’s event. See you there.
