Because once isn’t nearly enough, here’s another tour of last weekend’s 16th annual Ypsilanti Orphan Car Show.
You can find part one of the Ypsi Orphan Show coverage here.
This is also a perfect time to put in a great big plug for the outfits behind the Ypsi Orphan Show: Miller Hudson Motors of Ypsilanti, Michigan, the last operating Hudson dealer in America, and the adjoining Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum.
Along with its Hudson focus, the Heritage Museum is dedicated to the automotive history of the Ypsilanti area, including Tucker (Preston Tucker was from Ypsi) and Apex, and the various automotive enterprises at the nearby Willow Run complex, including Kaiser-Frazer, GM Hydramatic, and Corvair. There are some 30 cars and tons of memorabilia on display.
The museum is easy walking distance from Riverside Park, where the Orphan Show takes place, and is at the east end of the historic Ypsi neighborhood known as Depot Town. The general area around central Ypsilanti and Depot Town offers some nice dining and exploring opportunities. If you’re considering traveling to the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area for the Orphan Show, there are plenty of ways to make a weekend of it. Meanwhile, here’s more from the 2012 Ypsilanti Orphan Car Show in the gallery below.
Buck’s Comete Monte Carlo is a paragon of postwar automotive beauty. It’s truly a shame that Chevrolet would later sully the name .
One of my favorites, for sure. French style, American V8. What more could one want?
Let’s call the engine in this one a Franco-American V8. Assembled in the former Mathis plant, correct?
I had in mind where the engine was designed: Dearborn, MI.
Very beautiful car show. I would like to have the date for 2013.
The show runs in September. Stay tuned to MCG for the 2013 date.
