More from the 2013 Woodward Dream Cruise

Because one gallery is never enough, here’s another big assortment of vehicles from the 2013 Woodward Dream Cruise.

Random observations on this year’s Dream Cruise:

+   If the cars we saw on the avenue are any gauge, It would appear that the rat rod fad is nearly played out. We found barely a handful. Meanwhile, traditional hot rodding is alive and well.

+   Every year at the Cruise you will usually see Herbie, the familiar Volkswagen Beetle from The Love Bug movie franchise. We don’t know if it’s the same guy every year, or a different one. Heck, there might be an entire fleet of Love Bugs strategically deployed from Ferndale to Pontiac. All we know is we always enjoy seeing Herbie.

+   The Dream Cruise is a car spotter’s heaven, with hundreds, maybe thousands of oddball vehicles you will rarely see anywhere else, let alone in the same place on the same day. Among the rare birds we discovered this year: a Volve ES1800 wagon; a ’66 Acadian Canso (Canadian version of the Chevy Nova, as it were) done up in ’90s Pro Street style; a ’39 Buick Special Sport Coupe street rod. Is there a more beautiful and recognizable grille than ’39 Buick? .

…these and more in the gallery below.

  1. What’s with the golf carts? Are they road legal or do the police look the other way?

  2. I see those guys every year with the 2 carts. The 55 has been updated with a louder exhaust. Lots of other strange non licensed vehicles also cruising. Police seem to be OK unless you horse around.
Drove my 56 Custom ElCamino from N.Y. again this year. Spent the week cruising and having fun.
