Today’s headlines: 

+   Reid Bigland, head of U.S. sales and CEO of Fiat Chrysler Canada, is reportedly at the center of the U.S. government’s probe of suspected fraud in the automaker’s sales reports. More at The Globe and Mail.  

+   Volkswagen has rejected suggestions it violated European Union consumer rules in its emissions cheating scandal, declining to compensate affected car owners. More at Automotive News Europe. 

+   Ford is adding 1.5 million cars to its recall to correct defective latch components that could cause doors to fly open, bringing the total to 2.4 million vehicles. More at USA Today. 

+   Unifor, Canada’s auto workers union, has targeted General Motors to bargain with first in its contract negotiations with the Detroit Three automakers. More at Michigan Radio. 

+   After a series of errors by Kevin Harvick’s NASCAR pit crew, Stewart Haas Racing has swapped personnel between the crews of Harvick and stablemate Danica Patrick. More at Racer. 

+   AC Heritage in Brooklands, England will produce nine replicas of the AC Shelby Cobra to original 1962 specifications and priced at $665,000 each. More at Autocar. 

+   As expected, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will end production of the Dodge Dart sedan this month, freeing the Belvidere, Illinois plant to build Jeep Cherokees. More at Car and Driver. 

+   Ford Motor Company sales in China increased 22 percent in August, while sales for General Motors rose 18 percent in the same period over last year. More at MLive.

+   For the second consecutive year, Fortune magazine has placed General Motors Chairman and CEO Marry Barra atop its list of the most powerful women in America. More at The Detroit News.
