Today’s Headlines:

 General Motors is cutting production at eight plants while Ford will stop production at one Ford truck plant and cut back at two more due to the continuing microchip shortage. More at Autoblog. 

 The Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus midsize SUVS will be discontinued in 2023, but the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs will gain electric versions around that time.  More at MotorIllustrated. 

  BMW has powered up a new production line for its Series 2 Coupe compact sports car at the German automaker’s two-year-old assembly plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. More at Reuters.

+   Formula 1 veteran Kimi Raikkonen, who won a world drivers title with Ferrari in 2007 and currently drives for Alfa Romeo, announced he will retire at the end of the season. More at ESPN. 

+   Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand plans to introduce only battery EVs and fuel cell EVs by 2025, become a zero emissions brand by 2030, and become carbon neutral by 2035. More at Road & Track. 

+   The Ram truck brand at Stellantis  topped the J.D. Power 2021 Initial Quality Study, while the automaker’s Dodge brand took the second spot in the survey-based rankings. More at The Detroit News.  

+   Audi has unveiled the Grandsphere, a Level 4 autonomous luxury concept with a disappearing steering wheel that the company describes as “a private jet for the road.” More at The Drive. 

 The Jaguar Land Rover Classic department has announced another official continuation vehicle, a 1953 Jaguar C-Type with a production run of eight cars. More at Motor Authority. 

+   The annual Bonhams Zoute auction will feature a selection of exceptional Italian sports cars, including a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC and a 1959 Flaminia Sport Zagato. More at Sports Car Digest. 

 JTG Daugherty Racing will reduce its operation to one-full time NASCAR Cup entry in 2022, and team driver Ryan Preece confirmed he is actively seeking another ride. More at Jayski.
