+   Former VinFast and Nikola chief Michael Lohscheller has been named CEO at Polestar following the resignation of Thomas Ingenlath, who had led the company since 2017. More at Car and Driver. 

 Toyota reported that its global production slipped for a sixth straight month in July, hurt by declines in the China and Thailand markets, but the decline was smaller than last month. More at World Auto Forum.

 The Mercedes Formula 1 team confirmed that Andrea Kimi Antonelli will be promoted to a race seat in 2025 alongside George Russell, replacing Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton. More at CNN.

+   General Motors and Samsung SDI have finalized a battery joint venture agreement that the companies announced in 2023, with the plant in Indiana scheduled to open in 2027. More at The Detroit News.

+   Stellantis has rejected an offer from Frank B. Rhodes, great-grandson of Chrysler Corportaion founder Walter P. Chrysler, to purchase the Chrysler, Dodge, and Mopar brands. More at The Drive. 

 A study by JD Power found that consumers have mixed feelings about the high-tech features on 2024 vehicles, though smart climate control systems are especially popular. More at CBT News.

  1. Seems unnecessary to replace an entire engine because of a few bad intake valves. Could it be less costly to pull an entire engine instead of just the heads? It might well be, considering how cramped the modern compartment is. They will no doubt rebuild the returned engines and drop them into a new car. There goes your “matching numbers” restoration.

    Ford seems to have had a lot of recalls lately. It’s no longer a case of one product being rushed to market. This one has got to be a supplier problem. I don’t know how many cars & trucks they build in a day, it may have only been a day or two’s worth of output before the problem was caught.

  2. Explorer Sport. $4100 to replace the water pump. $500 just to replace the thermostat. Should I invest that much in my 2015 Explorer Sport? PS: special tools are needed.
