+   To great fanfare, General Motors unveiled its new GMC Hummer electric truck, due in late 2021 in an initial Edition 1 model sporting 1,000+ hp and a list price of $112,595. More at Motor Trend. 

 The British government’s plans to allow self-driving cars on motorways as soon as 2021 would put lives at risk, according to UK insurance group Thatcham Research. More at Reuters. 

  Shares in Tesla Inc. rose this week as the company reported its fifth consecutive quarter of profits and that it remains on track to deliver 500,000 electric cars in 2020. More at The Detroit News. 

+   The new NASCAR team launched by basketball legend Michael Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin with driver Bubba Wallace will run Jordan’s number 23. More at Jayski. 

 With a strategy called Mission American Automotive Renaissance (AAR), the Hong Kong-based investors who own DeTomaso will move the sports car maker from Italy to Detroit. More at Autoblog. 

+   Hyundai has increased the base price of the 2021 Veloster N Base by nearly $5000 to $32,345, with the Performance Package with 275 horsepower now liasted as  standard. More at Car and Driver.

 On a closed highway in Nevada between Pahrump and Las Vegas, a 1750-horsepower SSC Tuatara set a world speed record for production cars at 316.11 mph. More at The Drive. 

  With a diverse selection of vehicles, Mecum’s live auction in Dallas generated total sales of $23.8 million and an 82 percent sell-through rate with 612 collector cars sold. More at Classic Cars.com Journal.

 In response to demand, Ford will offer the Handling Package option on the 480-hp Mustang Mach 1 in both manual and 10-speed automatic transmission versions. More at Autoweek. 

+   The Haas Formula 1 team has released both of its current drivers, Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean, reportedly due to costs, and their replacements are not yet named. More at Autosport.
