 General Motors CEO Mary Barra called a meeting with United Auto Workers officials in an attempt to restart stalled negotiations and reach an end to the current strike. More at The Detroit News. 

+   British inventor James Dyson has cancelled his company’s $3.1 billion electric car program, which employs more than 500 people, saying it is “not commercially viable.” More at the UK Independent. 

 Renault Chief Financial Officer Clotilde Delbos could be named as the automaker’s interim CEO to replace Thierry Bollore, a French television station has reported. More at Automotive News Europe. 

+  NASCAR may switch to gasoline/electric hybrid drivetrains in 2022, starting first on road courses and short ovals, according to senior vice president Steve Probst. More at Fox News.

 BMW rolled out its new M8 Gran Coupe and M8 Gran Coupe Competition four-doors, both powered by 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8s with more than 600 horsepower. More at The Drive.  

 Tesla this summer quietly acquired Hibar Systems, a Toronto-area company specializing in high-speed battery manufacturing systems for electric vehicles. More at Electric Autonomy. 

 Chevrolet has released more info on the 2020 Corvette C8.R factory racer, including details of its 5.5-liter V8, which features double-overhead cams and a single-plane crankshaft. More at Autoblog. 

+   Bonhams’ annual Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum auction in Philadelphia produced $2.75 million in sales and an 80 percent sell-through rate. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

+   The U.S, military has extended its contract with BAE systems of Arlington, Virginia and Sterling Heights, Michigan to construct 168 Bradley Fighting Vehicles. More at Crain’s Detroit Business. 

 The IndyCar series and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway have chosen Chicago-based sports agency Schafer Condon Carter (SCC) to build a combined promotional campaign. More at Racer.
