Today’s Headlines:

+   Mercedes-AMG has dropped the Project One name for its upcoming 1,000-hp hypercar, which will now be known simply as the Mercedes-AMG One. More at Motor Trend. 

 In a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Tesla founder Elon Musk agreed to pay a $20 million fine and resign as chairman, though he will remain  CEO. More at CNN Money. 

 According to the Japanese car magazine Best Car, Subaru is developing a mid-engined hybrid sports car.with two electric motors and a turbocharged boxer four. More at The Drive. 

+   Hailie Deegan, 17, won the NAPA Auto Parts/Idaho 208 race at Meridian Speedway, becoming the first female winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. More at Sporting News. 

 Toyota plans to halt production at its UK factory in Burnaston if Britain leaves the European Union without a trade deal,  says managing director Marvin Cooke. More at Automotive News Europe.  

+   Carlos Ghosn, who built the three-way alliance of Renault SA, Nissan Motor, and Mitsubishi Motors, assured investors he will continue as chairman and CEO. More at The Detroit News. 

 At the Texas State Fair, Ford introduced four special-edition SUVs loaded with luxury and appearance features, two Explorers and two Expeditions, to be available later this year. More at Autoblog.

+   In China, Shanghai GM will recall more than 3.3 million Buick, Chevrolet, and Cadillac vehicles from the 2013-18 model years.to correct a suspension defect. More at Reuters. 

+   A rare, original, and mostly complete 1933 Brough-Superior SS100 with one devoted lady owner since 1963 will be offered at the Bonhams Autumn Stafford sale. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton says his win in this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix due to team orders left him feeling “the most conflicted I have ever been.” More at BBC Sport.

  1. A 330 hp mid-engined Subaru sounds nice but what about the Miata / MG Midget concept of a sports car that you can enjoy at its limits and still be mostly within the law? There are a lot of people that enjoy an early 130 hp Porsche 911.
