Today’s headlines:

+   Volkswagen is working with banks to put together up to $21.5 billion in short-term bridge financing to to weather the emissions cheating crisis. More at Bloomberg.com. 

+   General Motors global powertrain boss Dan Nicholson will campaign for worldwide standardization of emissions standards, particularly between the U.S and Europe. More at Automotive News Europe.

+   The French government has offered to limit its voting rights at Renault to end its power struggle with Nissan, but CEO Carlos Ghosn remains determined to gain more power for Nissan in the Nissan-Renault alliance, sources say. More at Reuters.  

+   Under new owner Stephen Fitzpatrick, the Manor Formula 1 team has appointed former McLaren sporting director Dave Ryan as its racing director. More at Fox Sports. 

+   The United Auto Workers union has agreed with General Motors Co. to extend its current 2011 contract until Nov. 20 as talks continue to iron out issues with skilled trades workers. More at The Detroit News. 

+   With voting partially completed, a new four-year contract between UAW members and Ford appears to be meeting approval by a wide margin. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   Kia Motor is recalling 260,00 Soul compact crossovers from the 2014 and 2015 model years to correct a safety defect in the steering gear. More at USA Today. 

+   Sales of the Volkswagen brand fell 5.3 percent from 517,000 to 490,000 units in October, the first full month after the carmaker’s diesel emissions scandal was uncovered. More at CNBC.

+   Four men have been sent to prison for their 2014 break-in of the Red Bull Formula 1 headquarters in Milton Keynes, England, using a truck to drive through the front entrance. More at Autoblog.

+   The assets and intellectual property of Saleen sports cars (not affiliated with Saleen Automotive), including six S7 chassis and the sole S5 Raptor concept, will be auctioned online by GAA Global Partners. More at Sports Car Digest.
