+   Nissan has halted production at its Changzhou plant in China, jointly operated with partner Dongfeng, to sort out production problems, the Japanese automaker anounced. More at Reuters 

 Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW’s M GmbH division, says the next BMW M3 due in 2026 or 2027 will be all-electric with four motors, torque vectoring, and more than 1,000 hp. More at Motor Trend. 

 Car dealers across the USA continue to struggle to maintain operations after popular software supplier CDK Global suffered two cyberware attacks that affected thousands of stores. More at CBT News. 

 Drag Racing legend John Force was sent to the hospital following a violent crash at Virginia Motorsports Park in which his funny car’s engine exploded and burst into flames. More at Autoweek. 

 After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, EV maker Fisker Inc. now appears to be heading for liquidation as creditors maneuver to acquire the company’s assets. More at U.S. News & World Report. 

 Supplier issues are delaying shipments of promised Tesla NACS charging adapters to Mustang Mach-E and Lightning F-150 owners, though Ford declined to name the supplier. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 Hyundai is preparing to launch operations at its $7.59 billion Metaplant America facility in Georgia, where production of the Inoq 5 EV is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter. More at Motor Illustrated. 

+   Italian automaker DR Automobiles has been fined $6.4 million for misleading consumers about the Chinese origin of its DR and EVO cars, Italy’s Antitrust Authority announced. More at World Auto Forum. 

+   According to dealer sources, deliveries of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona electric muscle car have been delayed 90 days until August as electrical bugs are worked out. More at Autoblog. 

 Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR driver Christopher Bell inadvertently let slip that Chase Briscoe will replace the retiring Martin Trex Jr. at JGR, but no announcement has been made. More at Yahoo! Sports

  1. Thanks to MCG for mentioning the John Force crash. Drag racing doesn’t get a lot of media time, and followers of the sport collectively held our breath as the crash unfolded. That typically doesn’t happen to a team like Forces, and if he survives, someone is going to get an aXX chewin’. Motors pop like that when someone didn’t do their job correctly. Force is 75, and had several “big ones”, this about the most serious of late. I think it will take more than this to kill that guy, but he is thinking of retiring, and I’m sure he’s tired of bouncing off walls and air lifted chopper rides.
