+   Uber has fired Anthony Levandowski, the engineer who led the company’s self-driving project and was a central figure in its legal battle with Google over technical secrets. More at USA Today. 

+   Ex-Formula 1 driver Esteban Gutierrez will fill in for the injured Sebastien Bourdais this weekend as he makes his Verizon IndyCar Series debut at the Detroit Grand Prix. More at Racer. 

+   McLaren has promoted Rob Melville, who most recently led the design of the carmaker’s 720S Super Series sports car, from Chief Designer to Design Director. More at Motor Trend. 

+   General Motors plans to cut one of its two shifts at the company’s Warren Transmission plant, potentially affecting half of the approximately 580 workers. More at the Detroit Free Press.
