Today’s Headlines: 

 General Motors reported a $758 million loss in net income on revenue of $16.8 billion in the second quarter, while declining to provide guidance for the rest of the year. More at The Detroit News.

 Ford reported a adjusted pretax loss of $1.9 billion in the second quarter, which was still far better than analysts expected, as they were projecting another $3 billion in losses. More at CNBC. 

 A study from IHS Markit determined that the average age of the vehicles on the road in the United States rose to 11.9 years this year, another month older than in 2019. More at Car and Driver. 

+   NASCAR will add a second chicane to the Daytona road course for the Cup, Xfinity and Truck Series races in August to slow the cornering speeds through the infield. More at NBC Sports. 

 Volkswagen has asked the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals to reconsider a ruling asserting that two counties could seek financial penalties over excess diesel emissions. More at Reuters.  

 Short on hourly production workers at its Marysville, Ohio plant, Honda is asking for volunteers among its white-collar employees to fill in on the vehicle assembly lines. More at The Drive. 

+   General Motors has released teaser photos and video showing details of the Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover in advance of its official introduction on August 6. More at Autoblog. 

 Due to COVID-19 logistics, the upcoming Allentown AACA Grand National meet for collector cars has been moved from to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on August 21-22. More at Hemmings Daily. 

 Team Penske, which is ending its IMSA Prototype partnership with Acura at the end of the year, has advised the team’s four drivers to explore their opportunities elsewhere. More at Racer. 

 Barrett-Jackson has canceled its annual Las Vegas and Palm Beach auctions and added a new live event at its home base in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 22-24. More at Classic Cars.com Journal.
