Today’s Headlines: 

 General Motors chairman and CEO Mary Barra says she expects the COVID-19 pandemic to ebb soon, leading to a rapid economic recovery in 2021. More at The Detroit News. 

+   Tesla reported its fourth consecutive quarter of profits, easily exceeding analysts’ projections, as the electric car maker also predicted sales of 500,000 vehicles in 2020. More at CNBC. 

 Tesla also announced that the carmaker will build the gigafactory for its upcoming Cybertruck on a 2,100-acre plot a few miles southeast of downtown Austin, Texas  More at The Drive. 

 Formula 1 is adding three more races to its shortened 2020 schedule at the ,Nürburgring, Portimao, and Imola, with race dates in the fall to be announced later. More at Grand Prix 247. 

+   Lotus will build a new research and development center on the campus of the University of Warwick, UK, in partnership with the Warwick Manufacturing Group. More at Auto Futures. 

+   Two important USA model rollouts for Hyundai’s premium Genesis brand, the G80 sedan and the GV80 SUV, have been delayed until autumn by the COVID-19 outbreak. More at Car and Driver. 

 The son of former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn made large payments in  cryptocurrency to one of the Americans who helped him escape from Japan, U.S. prosecutors say. More at Reuters. 

+   Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are developing a touchless touchscreen on which drivers need only point to rather than touch items on the screen. More at Autoblog. 

+   The Return to the Rock sale of vintage fashion, jewelry, and cars hosted by Artcurial in Monaco generated $16.1 million in sales, including $8.3 million in autos. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

 NASCAR announced that the remainder of the races in the 2020 season in Cup, Xfinity,  and Trucks will be held without practice of qualifying to limit exposure to COVID-19. More at NBC Sports
