+   General Motors reported record earnings of $2.87 billion in the second quarter, driving up the automatker’s earnings projection for the full year up to $5.50 to $6.00 per share. More at The Detroit News.  

+   Toyota has donated $1.44 million to the Michigan Science Center in Detroit to improve its multimedia movie theater and expand its technical educational programs. More at the Michigan Chronicle.

+   Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has unveiled a long-range “master plan” for the electric car maker that includes a wider product range with pickups, people movers, and heavy-duty trucks. More at ZDNet.

+   Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has slammed Formula 1’s rules restricting radio communications between the pits and drivers on the track. More at the UK Guardian. 

+   The next-generation Nissan Juke due in the fall of 2017 will receive an all-new platform based on Renault-Nissan Alliance modular architecture and a hybrid option. More at Autoblog. 

+   Fiat Chrysler Automobiles confirmed that the Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating the manner in which the automaker reports its sales in quarterly corporate reports. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   BMW is considering a pickup truck to compete against the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLT pickup, but has no plans to market the vehicle in the USA. More at Motor Trend. 

+   Daimler reported weaker profits from its Mercedes-Benz Cars unit in the second quarter due to product launch costs and one-time charges caused by Takata airbag recalls. More at Automotive News Europe. 

+   Auto parts maker Dana Holdings Inc. announced second-quarter sales and profits that exceeded analysts’ projections, and that the company will shorten its name to Dana Inc. on August 1. More at Bloomberg.com. 

+   Dale Coyne Racing had tabbed 19-year old RC Enerson to drive in the IndyCar event at Mid-Ohio, and could run the rookie at Watkins Glen and Sonoma as well. More at Motorsport.com.
