+   With strong sales in June, U.S. automakers are on track to hit a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 17.1 million units in 2016, says Kurt McNeil, General Motors vice president of sales. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration is investigating a fatal crash involving a 2015 Tesla Model S that was operating with its automated driving system activated. More at The Detroit News.

+   BMW is poised to announce an alliance with collision detection specialist Mobileye and computer chip maker Intel to develop autonomous vehicle technology. More at Reuters. 

+   Expanding a program in two pilot markets, Hertz Global Holdings has signed an agreement with the Lyft ride-sharing service to supply its U.S. drivers with rental cars. More at Automotive Business Review. 

+   India’s $13 billion pay raise for 9.9 million government workers and retirees will increase fuel consumption and boost auto and motorcycle sales, say energy analysts. More at Bloomberg.com.

+   The U.S. government is warning owners of 313,000 older Hondas and Acuras not to drive their vehicles until their Takata airbag inflators are replaced, citing a significant risk of explosion. More at the Los Angeles Times. 

+   A Ferrari 750 Monza owned by famed sports car driver and inventor Jim Hall for six decades will be among the star attractions at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction on August 18-20. More at Hemmings Daily.

+   Chevrolet has unveiled the sixth-generation Camaro bodywork its race cars will wear in the NASCAR Xfinity series beginning in 2017. More at National Speed Sport News.
